This was the very first farm we had visited, right after 8 hours of travelling and two flights later. We will always try our best to bring to you, not so commonly seen Reds here as well as Overseas. Well known for their quality Reds, this was one of the bigger farms among the five we had visited during this Christmas 2014 trip. The farm owner, Mr Pangkawira have even bought the land next to his present farm for his future expansion. Currently, this farm's main export market is China.

Dear all,
As stocks of the Red arowanas which we had imported from Indonesian farms had been sold out, we thought we would make good use of the Christmas Holidays to visit Pontianak, Kalimantan again, just so we could visit some farms and top up our Red arowana stocks.

And so on Christmas Day itself, we had taken an early morning flight from Singapore to Jakarta, arriving at 8.15am so much so that we could catch a 10.15am flight to Pontianak, capital of the West Kalimantan province in Indonesia. Sharing with you all, our 8 hours journey from Singapore to Pontianak, West Kalimantan. Although this 5 days 4 nights trip is indeed a very tiring one, it was nonetheless a very fruitful trip as we had visited 5 different farms and ended up buying quality, hand picked Reds from 4 farms as a result.

Hi guys, just wanna share my recent study of arowana's scale problems.

History: I've been keeping arowanas for years, golden ones, and have been experiencing many of the common problems that most amateurs face. Gill curl, drooping eye, chipped scales, etc. Took me quite some time and lots of solid research done to finally find a solution for diminishing scale problems.

Process of Receding Scales



It all starts from a little edge abrasion. Whenever the arowana makes a turn, its body will bend, causing the scales to rub against each other. Weak scales will experience abrasions from the edges of neighbouring scales. This causes a "chipped" effect. However, it doesn't happen overnight, it is due to constant abrasion from movements.

Many first time Arowana hobbyist has the fright of their life when the aro die on them, minutes or hours after they are introduced to the new tank at home. Arowana is considered to be a hardy fish but when subject to sudden changes of water condition, it can be fatal. Apart from acquiring healthy fishes from reputable aquarium shop or farm, hobbyist should also take additional measures as follows:
1. Prepare tank with well-aerated over-night water.

This allows the dissipation of chlorine which is harmful to the fish when in excess amount, into the air. Should there be any time constraint in the tank set-up, anti-chlorine solution is available commercially and can be found in most aquarium shop.

2. To maintain a low level of water which is sufficient for the arowana to swim freely. (depend on arowana size... if too small swimming in big space.. how?)

The most important factors for grooming arowana are:

1) Lighting - 8 to10 hours daily of 6500k T5 (daylight)

2) Environment - clear or white till about 15 inches or midsize. Even for red arowanas. Many years ago, I visited farms in Kalimantan, some farms even groom young red arowanas in white tanks. The reason for this is to the color (not red color) up to the 6th row as soon as possible.
